the hairspring stud position is 180 degrees out - there is no marking on the balance
the stud position marker on the balance 180 degrees across from the current stud position
dial up position
dial down position
crown straightened
the roller has to be removed and turned 180 degrees
pushing the roller back onto the balance staff
now the hairspring stud points to the marking on the balance
somebody punched marks on the main plate to compensate for a worn staff - I remove those
when trying to make the final beat error adjustment, I notice that the balance staff is slightly loose in the balance, so it turns when I try to adjust the beat rate
I re-rivet the balance staff

dial up
crown down
crown left
crown right
crown up
