Before and after: Citizen Promaster

As you may know, (or may not know) we have in Holland since April 2013 a King. And he is visiting our little village in April to celebrate his birthday.
This inspired me to make a ‘kingsday watch’, with the colors of the Dutch flag (red, white and blue), and the orange ribbon, wich is showed only on
birthdays, birth or marriages of the royal family, and is a reference to the family name, wich is ‘Orange”
I gave the movement a overhaul, changed the dial, the hands and the bezelinsert. I painted the minute track orange, and put in a new crystal, and a NATO strap. Here the result

  1. Great,
I am working on a 8200 right now, it was my fisrt mechanical watch (gift from my father ~ 30 yrs ago)
It has never been serviced, and it was still keeping “ok” time.
Timegrapher shows horrible amplitude, so cleaning i did.
Question: did you have troble putting the train bridge.
It seems nearly impossible to align those jewels on to the wheels (i know, i am a ” newbie” watchmaker, so far i am learning and developing the essential skills: patience and hyper-steady hands)
    Thanks

    • Gently put the bridge on, and then move the wheels one by one until the fit into the jewel hole. Be gentle and don’t use pressure as you will break the pivots. As you say, patience does it!

  2. Hello
I have a question about Citizen promaster automatic.(divers)
I bought one in 2008, brand new. To say the truth i didnt like it very much the design and even now i dont know why i bought it :S
Since i dont like it i dont use it very often but when i use it im not sure if it keeps the right time – the basic work that a watch must do- the reserve of charge i think is less than 24 hours maybe near to 12 hours or less. ( i charge it manually before use it 20-30 times -only once every time i use it)
After saying all this , my question is
Is the mechanism Citizen that have this performance or just happened to me?
What is your opinion for this watch?

    • Sorry for the late reaction. It slipped my vision.
I never had a problem with the power reserve on these movements.
It is not the easiest movement to work on, but they never failed me.
      John

  3. nice craftsmanship! I am seeking a similar case for a old 8200 but in well status to assemble one I like

  4. Gosh, it’s getting very cosmopolitan in here of late 😉

It is nice to see a resurrected watch – and especially such a patriotic one!
