London Watch Show

london_watch_show_02Just came back from the London Watch Show and very much enjoyed putting together an ETA 2824-2 in front of an audience.

Many thanks to Patrick from hswalsh.com for supplying a superb microscope for the presentation, which delivered a very sharp image of the movement I was working on onto the large screen.

I was a bit apprehensive about putting balance jewels into a movement in front of an audience, but I managed not to drop any parts and make a complete fool of myself 😉

The movement was ticking nicely after about 40 minutes, including talking the audience through the function of the parts, lubrication, and taking ages to get the pallet fork bridge in…

There will also be an interview with BBC radio broadcast sometime next week, and I will put a sound file of that on the blog when I get it.

Now I am relaxing with a glass of wine, and feel that I deserved it.

  3. Hi Christian

Well done indeed, I was glad to hear you left butter fingers at home….he never leaves my side.

Quite a moment to be asked to do this kind of thing and pull it off!

  4. Sounds like an interesting day out… wish I could have been there!

Did you get to to keep the microscope..?

    😉

    • They dragged it away from me I’m afraid 😉

Actually, my stereo microscope is very good, but doesn’t have the huge distance between the lens and the object, which allowed me to work under the microscope whilst people were watching what I was doing.

      • I have two microscopes – neither particularly great, but good enough for my occasional use.

        I would love one with a camera mount, but couldn’t justify the purchase – although you can take pretty good images without one;

That is from a friend of mine’s recently purchased ancient stereo one 😉

  5. So wish I could have made it down there!! 🙁
Anyways glad the presentation went well especially when you’re doing something tricky it all adds to the nerves!! Look forward to hearing that BBC interview! 🙂

Oh btw if you need a watch for next years show I have a chronograph with a Valjoux 7750 movement that should be just about ready for service by then! Be a loooooong presentation but I think it would be worth it!! 😉 🙂
