My streak of Omegas continues, and this one is Mark’s. The crown and winding stem came off and are lost, and the watch needs a service and a new crystal. If you wonder why you can see a gasket in the back, the mystery will be revealed in the next photo …
The winder has started munching the gasket! It was way too small, and never properly sat between the back and the case. In the first photo, I had already removed the back, so that’s why the gasket is sticking out in the background.
There is a fair amount of dirt.
Not the cleanest of movements.
All the parts in the baskets.
Another one of the NOS mainsprings I got from Australia – only 2 left now!
I put the jewels back in, having oiled the cap jewel.
I have a beat error of slightly over 3ms, so that needs correcting. On this type of movement, there is no regulator for the beat error, so you have to take the balance out, and slightly turn the collet. This can take 4 or 5 attempts, but I’m lucky today, and I hit 0.0ms in the first go!
My lucky day – and a great performance from the movement.
The new original Omega crown and winding stem.
The pin that holds the movement in the case is missing, and I turn up a new one.
The bottom plate looks nice and clean again. The plating has come off in some places, but that’s absolutely normal for an Omega that age.
With a new crystal, it’s looking great again.

Just purchased one (first vintage piece) and thought I got a bargain. But when I brought it to my watchmaker he noticed the case looked to have been replaced at some point (about 1mm too big) causing the dial to slope slightly and overall not the perfect fit….any idea how much it would cost to have the watch fitted into the correct case ? The dial/ movement is in great shape and I cant seem to find the same 2 tone anywhere near what I paid for it. Thank you in advance, Brian
Sell it on eBay as it is.

I AM LOOK FOR OMEGA CROWN CALL 354 TO REPLACE ON MY OMEGA AND I NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW PART CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND A CORRECT ONE ,THANKS
The minute hand on my constellation (with the 354 movement) has come off. The local Omega dealer is not interested as he cannot give it a service at the same time as the parts are obsolete. Should I attempt to take this on myself?
Thanks
If you still have the hand and it is not broken then replacing it would be well within the capability of any independent watchmaker! Even if it is broken an independent should be able to source an appropriate replacement, even if not an original one.
I saw an omega Seamaster wristwatch, I believe it was a chronograph. The entire workings could be removed from the back of the band and held like a stopwatch. it was held in place with a rubber gasket. never before or since have I seen anything like this.do you have any information on this model. I have asked countless “experts” and the results were nil. I believe the watch was made either in late 50’s or early 60’s.
the pin! the pin that holds the movement in place! i have had my 344 serviced twice, and neither time did the watchmakers deal with the lack of the pin. so now the movement sags in the case where the pin should be. short of sending it all the way from california to you…any advice?
Have a chat with your local watchmaker and see if he can either get a pin or turn one up on his lathe … probably the easiest solution.
Ha – never seen a prolapsed watch before 😉
Looks great now though, and that is all that matters!
Strange, it states automatic on the dial, but the movement appears to be manual rewind.
PS: senior moment. It’s a bumper.
You spotted it before I answered 😉
It’s automatic – the hammer goes back and forth, thus the name “Bumper” – you can see that in the photo with the gasket that is stuck in the auto-winder.
May I ask if the noise is discernable to the ear on these bumper movements? If so can it be described?
Watch looks great and parts being available for such watches is very reassuring if you own one, or indeed thinking of owning one.
Yes, you can hear it, and you can feel it! I absolutely love bumpers as they are quite unique.
Can’t really describe it I’m afraid…
